MCLIN 255 - LATINE HEALTH HONORS PROGRAM - YEAR 2

This is the second in a series of courses required for the Latine Health Scholars Honors Track, a program that aims to increase the number of healthcare providers who have proficiency In medical Spanish and the skills and understanding necessary to work toward reducing barriers and improving healthcare for the increasing population of patients with limited English proficiency. The course of comprised of monthly seminars for linguistic and cultural engagement and clinical shadowing experiences. Students will practice medical Spanish skills in role plays during the monthly seminars. In addition, students will begin the online Canopy Learn educational program for medical Spanish skills and will engage in a scholarly project related to health in the Hispanic community. In order to receive a passing grade for the course, students must attend all seminars and complete a minimum of 2 clinical shadowing experiences. They must also provide a written summary of their anticipated scholarly project and an oral presentation regarding their clinical experiences. They must also demonstrate ongoing engagement with the Canopy Learn course and uphold school expectations regarding professional behavior.
