Radiology is integral to the diagnostic work-up and care of patients. A longitudinal approach to Radiology education is utilized throughout the four years. In the first year, radiographic anatomy is taught in correlation with gross anatomy. Students learn normal radiographic anatomy and anatomic relationships via cross-sectional imaging modalities and by organ systems. In the second year, Radiology lectures are interwoven in the didactic curriculum as students are introduced to system-based pathology and mechanisms of disease. These lectures emphasize diagnostic work-up in clinical problem solving via imaging approaches. A longitudinal elective is also available for the second year student; participants spend time in the Radiology department at University Medical Center and observe and learn at the workstation with attendings and residents. In the third year, a 2 week Diagnostic Radiology elective is available to learn basic concept of diagnostic imaging and to observe and learn real-time from practicing Radiologists. Students will also attend the Radiology residency lecture series and be a part of other interactive and didactic learning opportunities. These concepts are expanded upon in the fourth year electives, either Diagnostic Radiology or Interventional Radiology, which lasts 4 weeks. All instruction utilizes computer-based learning and lecture formats.
